I’ve been using Backbone.js in a couple of projects now and my feelings about it are quite diverse. On the one hand, I like how it provides you with guidelines on how to structure your frontend code. Although splitting model and view is a very basic idea in software development, it also is very powerful. Backbone.js is of great help by providing collections which aggregate model instances and by being able to sync these models with a server via RESTful APIs. On the other hand, it always (and I hope that it’s not just me) seems to be a pain in the b*** to figure out the best way to implement a proper view lifecycle and to keep track of all registered event handlers. If you aren’t careful when removing or even just re-rendering views, you can seriously mess up event handling and prevent proper garbage collection. If you are just a little sloppy, this leads to a slow frontend with an always increasing memory footprint. I’m not saying that Backbone.js is bad in handling UI events, just that you have to care about too many things that are common to most web applications. This article describes an alternative to the Backbone.View component.

A few days ago, Facebook and Instagram published a JavaScript framework of theirs: WONDERHEEL 7 Wedge Heel padlocks Ankle Boots Black Matte Sexy Fetish Women Boots 0OHW8iPgLp

React has some interesting concepts for JavaScript view objects that can be used to eliminate this one big problem I have with Backbone.js . As in most MVC implementations (although React is probably just a VC implementation), a view is one portion of the screen that is managed by a controlling object. This object is responsible for deciding when to re-render the view and how to react to user input. With React , these view-controllers objects are called components. A component knows how to render its view and how to handle to the user’s interaction with it. The interesting thing is that React is figuring out by itself when to re-render a view and how to do this in the most efficient way. Let’s have a look at Universal Textiles Womens/Ladies Golden Chevron Toe Post Jelly Sandals Nude fc45H

This short snippet of code is defining two view components: TodoListItem and TodoList . Every time a TodoList is created, it is equipped with one standard todo (I have to remind myself of this every day!). When being rendered, the list delegates the rendering of single todos to the TodoListItem component class. The resulting components are then placed into a <ul> element. You might think that this is some kind of pseudocode – it’s not! This is JavaScript with JSX which is being transformed to pure JavaScript before being executed. Scientists are increasingly appreciating estrogen’s role in brain health. Now for the first time, production of estrogen in the brain has been directly linked to the presence of docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).

DHA is found in abundance in fish oils and is also synthesized from alpha-linolenic acid, an omega-3 fatty acid found in some vegetable-based oils.

The latest research from Hiroshima University connecting DHA synthesis to estrogen production, and consequentially brain health, backs up further the old adage that a daily intake of fish oil is good for you.

Assistant Professor Yasuhiro Ishihara, from HU’s Laboratory of Molecular Brain Science, keenly aware of both the growing understanding of estrogen’s role in brain health – and also DHA’s ability to reduce epileptic seizures , wanted to determine if there was any link between the two phenomenon.

DHA’s ability to reduce epileptic seizures

His research, recently published in Scientific Reports , and involving collaborators from Japan and USA, investigated how three groups of mice fed on different oil based diets reacted to induced seizures.

One group was fed a diet consisting of soybean oil, another on cottonseed oil, and a third on cottonseed oil in addition to DHA supplements.

These two oils used were chosen due to the differing yields of DHA obtained from them, i.e. the body produces more DHA from soybean oil than cottonseed oil. The third group were also fed on cottonseed oil, but also crucially along with DHA supplements.

After 28 days on these diets, the three groups were exposed to seizure inducing drugs. The group fed on soybean oil took longer to exhibit seizures, and when they did occur they were of a shorter duration than those fed on cottonseed oil. However, the mice fed on cottonseed oil with DHA supplementation, took far longer for seizures to take hold – proving that dietary sourced DHA was a key contributing factor.

When the researchers examined the brains of these mice they found that the soybean oil fed ones had over twice the concentration of estrogen present as those fed solely on cottonseed oil. The mice fed on cottonseed with DHA supplementation had even higher levels of the hormone, suggesting that estrogen production affects seizures, and that this is directly connected to DHA’s presence.
